The cold season usually comes with an increase in respiratory infections like coughs and colds. This cough syrup is pretty easy to make and requires just a few ingredients. Each ingredient has amazing benefits. Thyme is known to strengthen the lungs. It has antiseptic properties and makes it an excellent remedy for chest infections. Lemons are loaded with Vitamin C which is a necessary vitamin for immune boosting. Honey also has antiseptic properties and has a soothing feeling which helps relieve cough symptoms. 

Ingredients

  • Thyme leaves (Dry, Fresh, Tea bags)
  • Lemon (slices)
  • Honey
  • Water

Measurements

  • Thyme leaves
    1. Dry Leaves – 2 tbsp
    2. Fresh Leaves – 4 tbsp
    3. Tea bags – 5 tea bags
  • Lemon (slices) – 1 medium lemon
  • Honey – 100ml
  • Water – 400ml

Method

  • Boil thyme leaves for 10 – 15 minutes till water is reduced to half its volume
  • In a clean jar, add honey, lemon slices and thyme tea
  • Mix contents by using a stirrer, then shake to mix again
  • Store in refrigerator and allow to infuse for 6 hours or more
  • Take one tablespoon two to three times a day to help with cough relief
  • This mixture should be stored in refrigerator for 6 weeks and discarded after this time
